Four Properties of Stainless Steel Washers
Stainless steel Washers use stainless steel as raw materials. Stainless steel Washers has four properties.1. High temperature resistance. For high hardness, the Washers has strong oxidation resistance. It cannot work under high temperature and cannot be interfered by high temperature. If the Screws is passivated after being made out, the temperature resistance will be better.
2. Physical properties. Stainless steel Washers has higher specific resistance. The specific resistance of stainless steel is higher than that of carbon steel by five times. Standard parts have an expansion factor. Through experiment, if the temperature is higher, the expansion factor of stainless steel Washers will be improved definitely.
3. Stress capacity. Stainless steel Washers can endure moderate stress. Although it cannot be compared favorably with high strength Washers, the fastener can still meet the common requirements.
4. Mechanical properties. High rust resistance and corrosion resistance have close relationship with the features of stainless steel. For standard parts developing constantly, mechanical properties of stainless steel Washers will be enhanced further.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is an alloy of low carbon steel and chromium for enhanced corrosion characteristics. Stainless steel is highly corrosion resistant for the price and because the anti-corrosive properties are inherent to the metal, it will not lose this resistance if scratched during installation or use.
It is a common misconception that stainless steel is stronger than regular steel. In fact, due to the low carbon content, stainless steel cannot be hardened. Therefore when compared with regular steel it is slightly stronger than an un-hardened (grade 2) steel fastener but significantly weaker than hardened steel fasteners.
Stainless steel is also much less magnetic than regular steel fasteners though some grades will be slightly magnetic.
18-8 Stainless
18-8 refers to any stainless steel containing approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This is the most common stainless designation for hardware.

18/8 stainless steel has nominally 18% chromium, 8% nickel, the remainder iron as it’s composition. Other common designations include 301, 302, and 304 stainless steel. Generally, cleaning in a dishwasher should be acceptable. The term “18-8″ is often used to designate products made from 300 series stainless. This “18-8″ call out is referring to the 18% chromium/8% nickel alloy mixture of the steel. “18-8″ is not an actual specification, as it only refers to two different alloys in the steel. While all 300 series stainless steels share this 18/8 mix, slight differences in chemical composition between the different grades of the 300 series do make certain grades more resistant than others against particular types of corrosion. In the fastener industry the term “18-8″ is often used as a designation for a bolt, nut, or washer manufactured from 300 series stainless steel material that has the 18% chromium/8% nickel alloy mixture.

The term "18-8" is used interchangeably to characterize fittings made of 302, 302HQ, 303, 304, 305, 384, XM7, and other variables of these grades with close chemical compositions. There is little overall difference in corrosion resistance among the "18-8" types, but slight differences in chemical composition do make certain grades more resistant than others do against particular chemicals or atmospheres. "18-8" has superior corrosion resistance to 400 series stainless, is generally nonmagnetic, and is hardenable only by cold working.
